HAVING A FUDGY CHRISTMAS TIME is the sweet Christmas novella in the Candy-Coated Mysteries by Nancy Coco. The colorful and festive cover invites you in for some holiday cheer and then the reader is treated to an intriguing mystery to solve alongside entertaining characters! In this newest release, spunky senior-citizen Carol Tunisian takes the lead point of view. In past books, she and her senior book club have helped the usual protagonist in this series, Allie McMurphy, solve cases. It was so fun seeing Carol get her own book and use her wits and her book club posse to catch the culprit. Carol is certainly a force of nature and a take charge type of woman. Yet, she has a breezy sense of humor that adds to the enjoyment of the story.
As is usual with Ms. Coco’s writing style, the action takes off from the very beginning. The story immediately drew me in and kept me turning pages. Despite the short novella length, the mystery is fast-paced and features all the characters readers have come to love. There were enough suspects to consider and twists to make me question my guesses. In the end, all the threads of the story came together in a highly satisfactory manner.
Having A Fudgy Christmas Time is the perfect novella to cozy up with over the holiday season and read while nibbling some of the Christmas confection recipes included in the book! I couldn’t wait to try out the recipe for Easy Maple Fudge. There’s something about maple and walnuts that remind me of Christmas desserts from my childhood and the combination of flavors is oh so yummy. With only six staple ingredients, and using the microwave to melt the white chocolate, this fudge recipe comes together in a snap. It’s a great candy recipe to add to Christmas cookie platters or for gift giving or for Santa’s treat!
Amazon Synopsis
Carol is looking forward to finishing plans for the Mackinac Island Senior Center Christmas Ball. But when she arrives at the center, she finds the door jimmied open and a dead man inside. The victim is a local senior who seems to have been sleeping in the center at night—but why? Although she promises Officer Rex Manning not to involve her book club in solving the mystery, Carol finds a way to fudge around that. Rallying her troop of silver-haired sleuths—and with some support from Ally in between her batches of Christmas fudge — Carol sets out to discover which grinch tried to steal this Christmas. All she wants from Santa is to get this case wrapped up with a bow!
